MAHI TAHI = TEAMWORK!

The event is aimed at all fitness levels from families to groups of co-workers to corporate teams.. This is going to be a day of Unforgettable Fun with some amazing prizes to be won!

This is a fun day out, in a team environment doing as much or as little riding as you like.

The aim is for your team to work together to complete as many laps as you can in 8 hours

RACE SUMMARY

  • Setup from 06:30am, race starts at 08:30am

  • Each team will be allocated a 3x3m space at the event base to setup as you wish.

  • Teams of 4 people complete as many laps as they can in the time limit.

  • The lap starts and finishes at the Event Hub and is an achievable Cross Country course on Grade 2 Mountain Bike Tracks. It is approximately 7.5km and should take on average 20-30 minutes to ride

  • Teams decide who rides which lap and in what order. It is totally up to you if you prefer to take a break and enjoy the atmosphere and food at the event hub. Each individual is NOT riding for 8 hours 😊 It is a fun but competitive event

  • Each person in the team must complete at least one lap

  • Only one person from each team is riding the course at any one time

How many laps can your team complete before the time is up?

The Key Rules

  • Ride as many laps as possible within the 8 Hours
  • Only one rider from a team on the course at a time
  • Riders can do as many laps in a row as they like before switching to another team member
  • All riders must have a current Register to Ride Annual WMBP Donation, or complete a Day Donation
  • The changeover of teammates for the next lap will occur outside your tent site. However, the lap time continues, until the new team member crosses the start line
  • No non-competitors on the course
  • No personal aid/pacing during a lap (the only support location is at the event base). This means kids taking part must be confident enough to ride the lap by themselves, no parents to ride alongside them.
  • Slower riders – please allow faster riders to pass. Move to your left
  • The winning team has the most complete laps in the team category entered
  • In the event of top teams having the same number of complete laps, the time of the last lap that was completed will decide the winner
  • We are on DoC Land so no cats, dogs or other domesticated animals allowed onsite
  • No Smoking Permitted on Event Premises

E-Bike Teams

  • One E-bike in a team means you are classed in the Electric Bike Category.
  • Electric Bikes need to be pedal assist, rather than throttle driven
  • There are no charging facilities onsite, so make sure your bike is all charged up!
Full Race Rules and Waiver can be found here

Aid Stations

The laps are only 7.5km so there are no aid stations out on the course.

Compulsory Gear

Due to this being a short lap course there is no compulsory gear to take whilst you are out on the lap; apart from your helmet and bike

Bike Safety

You are riding at your own risk, so it is up to you to ensure your helmet and bike are in safe working condition.

Please make sure your bikes have the following:

  • Front and back brakes – both working
  • Pumped up tyres – we recommend 20-25 psi
  • Tight grips, handle bars, headset and pedals
  • No open ended grips (must be capped)

We recommend checking your bike in for a service, at Paihia Mountain Bikes before the race, to make sure it is running perfectly on the day. No one wants their day to finish early due to a mechanical!

Tent Sites

Each team will be allocated a 3m x 3m site within the event base. A section of the course will weave past the tent sites, before entering the designated transition zone, before continuing to the start/finish line.

Team sites do not direct access to power or water. There will be water refill stations onsite for water bottles and cups only

No vehicles will be allowed on the tent sites during the race. Cars are only allowed onsite to drop/pick up gear pre 7.30am and post 4.45pm

Bring your own gazebo/tent or perhaps some comfy chairs –  Make other people jealous of how good your setup is! No Generators are Permitted

Please remember we are on DoC Land so no pets allowed onsite

We are a zero waste event, so please make sure you take all your rubbish home with you
